Notice on Clarifying the Graduation Requirements for Chinese Language Proficiency of Degree-seeking International Students at Henan Agricultural University

To all colleges and all degree-seeking international students:
In accordance with the requirements of the document Quality Standards for Higher Education of International Students in China issued by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China:
For disciplines and majors where Chinese is the language of instruction for professional courses, international students must reach Level 5 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards upon graduation.
For disciplines and majors where a foreign language is the language of instruction for professional courses, international students must meet the following Chinese language proficiency requirements upon graduation: undergraduate students shall reach at least Level 4 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards, and master's and doctoral students shall reach at least Level 3 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards.
To implement the spirit of the above-mentioned document and further improve the quality of cultivating international professional talents in our university, the graduation requirements for Chinese language proficiency of degree-seeking international students in our university are hereby clarified as follows:
1. Degree-seeking international students (including undergraduates, master's students and doctoral students) who were admitted by HAU in the year 2021 and after in all majors where Chinese is the language of instruction for professional courses must pass the Chinese Proficiency Test organized by International Education College (IEC) upon graduation, achieve a score equivalent to Level 5 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards, and obtain the corresponding certification issued by IEC.
2. Degree-seeking international undergraduate students in all majors where a foreign language is the language of instruction for professional courses must pass the Chinese Proficiency Test organized by IEC upon graduation, achieve a score equivalent to Level 4 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards, and obtain the corresponding certification issued by IEC.
3. Degree-seeking international postgraduate students (including master's students and doctoral students) who were admitted by HAU in the year 2021 and after in all majors where a foreign language is the language of instruction for professional courses must pass the Chinese Proficiency Test organized by IEC upon graduation, achieve a score equivalent to Level 3 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards, and obtain the corresponding certification issued by IEC.
All degree-seeking international students are requested to take the Chinese Proficiency Test organized by IEC in advance, and submit the Chinese language proficiency certification that meets the requirements to their respective colleges before the deadline for formally submitting the application for thesis (design) defense. Those who fail to submit the Chinese language proficiency certification within the deadline or whose Chinese language proficiency fails to meet the above standards will not have their graduation defense applications accepted.
Note: There are four-time tests for the Chinese Proficiency Test organized by International Education College every year. It’s in February, April, September and October. Information about the test will be sent in the WeChat group in advance.
